Nascar Girls
There was once a time when there were no girls in NASCAR. It was an all boys league. Things are different now, much different. Now women are not only starting to take interest in the sport, they are also starting to compete in it. There are a few women who have joined NASCAR and given the other men quite a hard time in the competition. It is no longer considered a revelation that women are entering a men’s sport. Although it should be recognized that it is much easier for women to enter their field of choices now than it was earlier. The term NASCAR girls not only refer to the girls competing in the sport, but also to the girls that stand up to cheer for their teams. They are very much like the cheerleaders that they have in basketball or football.
Although the NASCAR girls have participated in the NASCAR race since the competition first began, they were very few in number as compared to now. Many believe that if there would be greater participation of women in the sport, more young girls would be interested in entering and participating in this sport. Many people just consider the girls of NASCAR to be the bystanders in the sport. This is a misconception as more and more women and entering and triumphing in the competitions.

Since it first began in 1948, NASCAR was dominated by the men. Although there were no rules that there could be no women in NASCAR, there were hardly any women who were interested in entering the sport. In 1949, a year after NASCAR first began; the first female NASCAR driver Sara Christian entered the sport. Although she did not stay for long as she retired from NASCAR in 1950. This is also true for many other women of NASCAR who often participate in only a few races before they retire. There are exceptions to this though. For instance, there was once a woman NASCAR driver, Janet Guthrie, who too part in thirty-three races which included the Indy 500 in 1978.
With seventy-five million fans worldwide, it is not hard to digest that NASCAR is becoming the fastest growing sport in the nation. In the United States, it is the second largest sport. And fifty percent of all these fans are made of women. The fact that it is a source of pure, healthy family entertainment is a primary factor in its success. There are neither any language constraints nor is there any form of violence allowed. It is a very nice pass time for all families. All this has contributed to greater interest taken by the females in this sport. For example, the NASCAR women have entered the sport after viewing the sport as fans.
One of the reasons why there is not yet an exclusive girl’s team in NASCAR is due to the fact that there are not enough girls to make one. Although some of the female NASCAR drivers are adamant on changing this. Still, an average NASCAR woman is not just looking to start a women’s league, she just wants to leave her mark on a male dominated sport.
If one is interested in finding out more about the women in NASCAR, there are plenty of links online in which this information is available. There are many web pages on the internet that not only contains news items on NASCAR girls, but also discussion boards, chat rooms, web blogs, peoples’ opinions. Some websites also contain the views and interviews of the many NASCAR girls themselves. It will be some time before we grow accustomed to seeing as many NASCAR girls in the competition as we see the men. Hopefully, that time is not far away.
