The history of NASCAR began around sixty years ago when it was started by Bill France Sr. on February 21st, 1948. In the initial stage, there were three divisions, namely Modifiers, Roadsters, and Strictly Stock. Jim Roper was the winner of the very first race in the “strictly stock” division. It was organized at a dirt track three fourth of a mile long known as the Charlotte Speedway. This division has now grown out to become the NEXTEL Cup that we are familiar with now.
